Filtering SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) virus from the hospital and work environment:
At this writing, very little is known about SARS. From what has been
published by the U.S. Center for Disease Control and by the World
Health Organization, this virus is believed to be highly contagious,
is apparently capable of living for several hours or days outside of
the body on such items as door handles and is believed to be
transmitted from one person to another by sneezing. Some say that the
incubation period is between 10 and 12 days. It is too early to say
if the Bubble Bunker, particularly the hospital bed version, capable
of isolating the infected patient from the rest of the patient
population. Our HEPA filtration systems are capable of filtering out
particles and bacteria as little as .5 microns in size, however some
published reports have stated that the SARS virus is less than .1
microns long. Our system can filter approximately 98.5% of all
particles of .1 micron - but not 100%. Nevertheless, it is believed
that the virus is normally contained in droplets far exceeding the
current .5 micron size of our filtration system, which may indeed be
a fist step defense against this possible pandemic. We are presently
working on several hospital security systems which not only filter
the air but also sterilizes it, at the same time. Please contact

Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) cases in the United States as
HEPA filters, which were originally developed by the Atomic Energy Commission in 1943, filter particles as small as .3 microns and are 97.97% efficient. Anthrax spores are larger than .5 microns.
Viruses are not filtered by HEPA filters, since viruses are much smaller than what is possible to filter. It should be noted that a HEPA filter does not kill the organism, but rather, it traps the organism within the filter. It is possible for the organism to break free at some future time. For this reason, it is important for the user to wear protective clothing and/or gloves when changing filters.
Immediately after the collapse, the entire city was blanketed with dust fallout that ranged in thickness from a thin film, to several inches thick.
